筒を広げると、地元住民や観光客による、自らのこと、町のことに関する一言メッセージやイラストが書かれており、簡単に取り外せるようになっている。訪れた人には、その場で何かを描いてもらい、新たな場所に筒状にして取り付ける代わりに、別の筒を一つ持ち帰ってもらい、見ず知らずの人からのメッセージを受け取ることとなる。自分の筒を付け、他の筒を外す手紙交換のような行為により、観光客が多い那智の地において、観光客や地元住民、地元住民同士、観光客同士に、ほんの少しの繋がりが生まれ、それにより何かが起こるかもしれない。
また、那智の滝を眺めていると、いつまでも滝が流れ続ける現象が、いつまでも変化を続ける、人間の「生きる」ことそのものに対する映し鏡のように見えてきた。私の作品も、人の思いを投影することで、訪れた人が、付けては外す行為を繰り返し、作品の形も微妙に変わり続ける。那智のイメージカラーの赤は、生きる色として、たくさんの人の思いが込められた、止まない那智の滝のように、いつまでも変化し続ける「生きる」作品となってほしい。
Countless red tubes form a waterfall in the waiting room at Nachi Station. They represent the waterfall of Nachi. Upon rolling a tube open, there are brief messages and drawings by locals and visitors about themselves or about the city. They are easy to detach. Visitors write or draw something right there, roll it up and put it in the waterfall, taking another roll with them in exchange. In doing this, they accept a message from someone they have not seen and do not know. Putting up your own roll and taking someone else's is like exchanging letters. In Nachi, popular with tourists, this can form new connections between visitors and locals, or between two locals or two visitors, potentially leading to something new happening. I have come to see the waterfall of Nachi, ever flowing and ever changing, as a reflection of the "life" of a person. My work as well, projecting people's feelings, continues to subtly change through interaction with people. It has the image color of Nachi, red – the color of living. I hope the work will become an ever changing, "living" work like the unstopping waterfall of Nachi.
